		<description>I saw medlars on sale at a farmers&#039; market the other weekend; I was tempted to buy some, but I really couldn&#039;t think of anything to do with them.  Even the blessed St Jane doesn&#039;t have much to suggest, except for medlar jelly as an accompaniment to lamb.  But she does include the happy information that the medlar was traditionally known in England as the &#039;openarse&#039; and in France as &#039;cul de chien&#039;.</description>
